This edition of the Indian Historian is dedicated
to the teachers of America, who constitute the great
force shaping the minds of people of all races in
this our beloved land.
The Criteria for the curriculum Commission of the
State of California as to the role of the Indian in
State-adopted textbooks were formulated by a special
committee of American Indians, at the request of Dr.
Max Rafferty, California State Superintendent of Public
Instruction.
These Criteria, which form the basic part of this
special edition, were studied and discussed at a meeting
of the California Curriculum Commission, on August
19, 1965, and were accepted unanimously by the Commission
