The Malki Press and Malki Museum

Located on the Morongo Indian reservation, these tribally led organizations are dedicated to preserving the cultural and linguistic heritage of California Indians. Indeed, the Malki Museum is the first museum created by American Indians on a reservation. UCR is working closely with the Board of Malki Press and the Malki Museum to conduct research of importance to these tribally-led institutions. In 2002, UCR honored the co-founder of these institutions, Mrs. Katherine Siva Saubel with the Chancellor's Medal, the highest honor given by the UC system.
