Professor Taube has engaged in extensive archaeological and linguistic fieldwork in Yucatan, and is conversant in spoken Yucatec Maya. In addition to fieldwork in Yucatan, he has participated on archaeological projects in Chiapas, Mexico, highland Peru, and coastal Ecuador, and he is currently engaged in a multi-year project in the Acropolis at Copan, Honduras. Taube has broad interests in the archaeology and ethnology of Mesoamerica and the American Southwest. Much of his recent research and publications center upon the writing and religious systems of ancient Mesoamerica.
