Sharon V. Salinger specializes in early American history.
As a native Californian, she was surprised to discover that
the United States had a history that predated World War II.
She started her undergraduate education in music and ended
it a mere six years later in history. She earned her B.A.
from UCLA in 1969, M.A. in 1970, and advanced to candidacy
in 1972. Then she rested. When she regained consciousness,
she was living in Greensboro, North Carolina, was the mother
of Aaron Salinger, and had become a clay court specialist
with a formidable serve and forehand. In 1978, she moved to
Philadelphia, a fellow at the Center of Early American History
and Culture. There, she completed her dissertation on indentured
labor in colonial Pennsylvania, taught part-time at the University
of Pennsylvania, received a post doctoral fellowship from
the Hagley Museum and Library, and learned to play indoor
tennis. She joined the history department at UCR in 1980.
